The Sense in Family Time

Years ago, I made a decision to purchase an overly-expensive PDA (personal digital assistant) in an effort to get my life together. While it quickly became indispensable to me, I realized that accomplishing things in my life was not a matter of finding the right tool, but rather finding the right priorities…

As I entered all the tasks I had intended to finish in the “to-do” application, it dawned on me that what was truly important in my life was missing from the top of the list. My Family.

I had my “God” items prioritized OK, but I realized that I had not made time in my schedule for my next greatest treasures.

Look at these facts:

# people with great family relationships are more productive at work.
# people who value their family invest time and resources at home.
# people who regularly express love to their spouse also have great relationships with their children.
# people who spend quality, meaningful time with their children also have better relationships with their spouse.

When we put our family first, it improves the whole of our lives. When we get lost in tasks, to-do’s, paperwork and other “well-meaning” things, not only does our quality of life suffer, but so does our family.

There are many great reasons to take care of our families… better health, better work, better quality of living… but the real, basic reason for spending time with those we love is… It just makes sense!
